Description:
An autograph letter (in French, untranslated) signed by noted artist Jean Jacques Henner. The letter is written on bi-fold stationary (7 3/4\" x 5\", unfolded) with the concluding text and signature on the inner page. The year, 1876, has been written in another hand in the lower left corner of the inside page. Condition: Mailing fold and several pinholes in the blank portion of the note paper where the letter was once pinned to a separate page.
Biography: Jean -Jacques Henner (1829 – 1905) French painter, noted for his painting of nudes, religious subjects, and portraits.
From 1874 to 1889, organized with Carolus-Duran, what he called \"the studio of the ladies\" for women were not allowed entry to the École des Beaux-Arts. Some also served as his models. One of these was Dorothy Tennant who later married Henry Morton Stanley.
Henner won the Prix de Rome in 1858 and took a Grand Prix for painting at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900.
Henner was Commander of the Legion of Honour in 1889.
