Pater was renowned for his paintings of groups of elegant figures in landscape settings and many with the fresonce of sexuality. As with this exceptional painting figures are seen in a sensual \"play\"and being outside this enhances the permissive storyline. The numerouse incidents within the composition at all levels are captured with careful observation of human interaction. The whole painting demands attention and draws you into this labyrinthine scene.The painting is in very good condition with little overpaint and almost totally original. Relined during the 20th century with a new continental stretcher it measures 36\"x 24\" (92cms x 61cms) and 45\"x 34\" (114cms x 86cms) in its excellent quality 19th century frame. (minor losses).
