John G. Elbs Signed Christmas Card Star Egg Carrier Rocherster NY ca. 1914:
$3.00

This is a Signed Christmas Card to the Employees of the Star Egg Carrier & Tray Manufacturing Company Signed by John G. Elbs, President and Owner of the Company ca. 1914. It is 5.25\" x 3.25\", is printed on a card stock paper, and is signed \"John G. Elbs\".There are some small stains on both sides, and a spot on the front, at the top and in the middle, where it looks like something stuck to it and was pulled off, not taking any of the card with it but leaving some of whatever it was on the card. Other than this, it is in very good vintage condition and has no rips, tears, water damage, or repairs. The Star Egg Carrier & Tray Manufacturing Company was located in Rochester, New York and manufactured an egg carrier designed by Elbs that soon became a world-wide success. Obviously, one of the main design features that a good egg crate or carrier would possess was the ability to be dropped without damaging any of the eggs. Elbs built just such a carrier and because it was so hard for people to believe that you could drop a carrier full of eggs without breaking any, he staged a demonstration to prove his claim. He had an egg carrier filled with eggs put on a wagon that was then driven over a rough, cobblestone street. Surviving that was impressive enough, but that wasn\'t the purpose of the demonstration, because to the surprise of everyone watching Elbs then pushed the cratefull of eggs off the wagon and it fell onto the street. When it was opened everyone was astonished because not one egg was damaged in any way. People were duly impressed and in a short period of time the Star Egg Carrier was the egg carrier to use and made Mr. Elbs a very wealthy man.*******
