** Clarence W. Barron (1855-1928) was an American financial journalist, considered the founder ofmodern financial journalism. He was one of the most influential figures in the history of Dow Jones& Company. At the time of his death, he was both president of Dow Jones and de facto managerof its Flagship publication, \"The Wall Street Journal\".
John Hays Hammond was an American mining engineer, diplomat, and philanthropist. He made hisfortune in South Africa and later developed mines in Mexico and California.
