Please note that this item was previously listed, but the customer was unable to pay. This is a genuine Pennsylvania Colonial Currency note for Nine Pence. It has the signature of John Morton, a signer of the US Declaration of Independence. It has been fully encased in a double-sided glass frame.I believe the framing was done in the early to mid 19th century, so it\'s been preserved for a very long time. The frame measures 2 7/8 inches across by 3 7/16 inches tall. The currency measures 2 1/8 inches across by 2 3/4 inches tall. On one side it says Nine – pence in each corner. In the middle it says Printed by D. HALL and W. SELLERS. 1772.On the other side it says: Nine Pence on top. The next lines are: NINE PENCE. According to an Act of General Affembly of Pensilvania, pafied in the 12th Year of the Reign of his MAJESTY GEORGE III. Dated the 3d Day of April, Anno Domini 1772. It is then signed John Morton. It is separated along the middle where it would have been folded in half horizontally. Only about 15% of the paper still touches the top and the bottom, and that is mostly along the left side. Vertically where it is folded along the middle, about 80% of the paper still touches, with the separation towards the bottom upper middle. There are also three tiny pinholes from what I can see, one on the top half in the top middle just above the letter e in Nine, and two on the bottom half, one just about the letters o and m in Domini, and one just to the right of 1772.There is wear along each of the corner edges and the corners where it folds horizontally. Please look closely at the photos for better detail. There is some discoloration, which could be water stains. The signature has this discoloration on the paper. I\'ve taken close-ups so you can see what I\'m talking about. The frame is in very good and sturdy condition, except that it has a lot of wear to the paint color on the side where it says Printed by D. HALL etc. John Morton\'s signature is just below that of Benjamin Franklin on the Declaration of Independence. He was one of three signers of Colonial currency who also signed the Declaration of Independence. From what I understand, this is a very rare piece. It weighs 2.3 ounces.
