The \'Admit\' fields have been left blank on these substantially-sized tickets, and we do not know whether the Lucas\'s actually attended. John Seymour Lucas (1849-1923) was an English historical genre painter, whose work was especially popular during the lateVictorian period and early 20th century. Eminating from an artistic London family (his uncle was the painter John Lucas) he trained at St Martin\'s School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, and was elected as a full member of the Royal Academy in 1898. He was also a theatrical designer of some repute. By all accounts a popular and highly personable man, he kept correspondence with a wide social circle, includingactors, artists, aristocrats, antiquariesand other eminent figures of the day. He had a particularly special relationship with Princess Louise (daughter of Queen Victoria)and was also a member of a number of exclusive societies, such as the mysterious Kernoozers Club.
