CONDITION: The book is in good condition. The front coverhas a few stains that show on the light cover; has some wear as seen on the lettering.The back cover has a few stains.The spine has some fade and wear, slight wear at top andbottom of spine. Some wear at corners. Binding is strong - just a little loose; the hinges uncracked andunbroken. No names, marks, or writing apart from owner\'s name on front end page.Pages are a little yellow with occasional staining. The page edges are clean with some ageyellowing/ age staining.There is a frontispiece, four other sepia plates and 12 black and white illustrations throughoutby J. Allen St. John. \"W.F. Hall Printing Co.\" is imprinted at the bottom of the copyright page.

FORCOLLECTORS: The 1stedition of this title was published by McClurg & Co. in 1919. McClurg printed this 4 times (the 1stprinting has orange covers; the remaining have green covers). Joe Lukes\' bibliography on ERB\'s Grosset& Dunlap reprints identified 32 different reprints from 1921 - 1937.G&D reprinted this 3 times as a wartime edition from 1942 -1945. There were then several reprinting from 1950as Boy’s Club editions.

This book is easy to identify as a 1st edition, 1st printing -- it is the only one with orange covers. It also has \"A.C. McClurg & Co.\" at base of spine and the \"W.F.
