K & P PETERSON\'S HIGH GRADE GR.2 EBONY SILVER SPIGOT #406 HALLMARKED DUBLIN 1977:
$202.50

This week I am pleased to present at free sales, without reserve price, also for the pleasure of true \"Peterson\'s pipe\" collectors, a rare high-grade \"piece\" made by K & P Peterson\'s, Dublin, Ireland. It is a<SPIGOT> pipe clearly characterized by a sterling silver covering on the tapered end of the mouthpiece which complements the sterling silver band of the pipe. It shows the traditional English silver hallmarks by Dublin assay office in 1977 and it\'s offered without pouch and box.

You are offerding on a superb pre-smoked, or better, barely used silver mounting pipe. It is a large in size, it is a military style by Peterson\'s shapes from the Group 2 high-grade Peterson’s pipes. It is an <EBONY SILVER SPIGOT> pipe that was manufactured in 1977 by craftsmen of K & P Peterson\'s pipes manufacturer, Dublin, Ireland. I like to point out that these are amongst the most attractive and collectible pipes in the Peterson range of pipe issues. This military style pipe is a slightly \"Bent Prince\" shaped, with a round shank, and a silver ferrule complement at the end of the shank and on the stem, with the purpose of connecting directly to push the mouthpiece inside it. It shows a \"PETERSON\'S DUBLIN\" stamp in curved shape and block lettering, with forked tail \"P\" in Peterson\'s, a \"MADE IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND\", a \"#406\" number of shape, and lastly, on the silver ferrule at the end of the shank and on silver covering on the tapered end of the mouthpiece there are three \"shields\" that contain within them separately the traditional English silver hallmarks with a Date letter \"L\" in cursive, which identifies itself as a production of the year 1977 and in addition the inscription \"Sterling Silver\", and of course, the stamping of Peterson Dublin. This high-grade pipe has been finished in a most attractive black staining or ebony color in smooth finish. The hand-cut mouthpiece is in vulcanite, it is a military style, slightly bent, tapered shape, and it\'s supplied with a fish-tail lip, and finally, it is not suitable for the use of a filter. This high-grade silver spigot pipe is offered without pouch and box, despite its large size it\'s light as a feather, weighing just 37 grams and it\'s \"pristine\", namely that it came down to us still in barely used condition, it\'s almost like a new pipe !

K & P Peterson’s Ltd. History

The Peterson\'s History began in the year 1865; the year Charles Peterson opened a small Tobacco shop in Dublin. Later in 1875, Charles Peterson approached the Kapp brothers, Fredrich and Heinrich, with a new pipe design and with this, a very long-lived partnership was formed, Kapp & Peterson. This new pipe design is the now famous Peterson Patented System Smoking Pipe. By 1890, Kapp & Peterson was the most respected pipe and Tobacco manufacturer in Ireland and rapidly gaining followers in England and America. In 1898 another of Peterson\'s remarkable inventions became available, the Peterson-Lip (P-Lip) mouthpiece, also known as the Steck mouthpiece. An observation; the Kapp Brothers were making pipes as early as the 1850s and in many of the shapes we now associate with Peterson since the Kapp Brothers simply took there existing shapes and incorporated Charles Peterson\' s patented design into them. From their inception, Kapp & Peterson\'s goal was to make a good smoking pipe that the ordinary, common working man could afford. In 1974 Kapp & Peterson became part of the newly formed Peterson Tennant Group which in turn was taken over by the James Crean Group in 1982. In 1992 the company was sold again and is now owned and run by Tom Palmer who has added a superb range of Pipe Tobaccos, Cigars, and Accessories to the Peterson portfolio.

Please note:

Group 2, High-grade Peterson’s pipes

The pipes in this range are amongst the best and most select briars that Peterson produce. They vary in price from the Grafton, Rosslare Royal Irish and Silver Spigots starting at around $250. To the slightly more expensive Silver Caps and Lids, Plato, Royal Irish and Celtic Naturals and on up to $800 plus for Gold spigots.

(as show on the Peterson’s official website)

“The Peterson tradition has long been associated with the fine sterling silver detail of our pipes. The Peterson Spigot is characterized by a sterling silver covering on the tapered end of the mouthpiece which complements the sterling silver band of the pipe. The Spigot style evolved from the practice of soldiers in earlier centuries who repaired broken pipes by sliding a used cartridge case over the shank and reinserting the mouthpiece. In this unique spigot finished pipe, Peterson craftsmanship perfect the union of finest quality briar and precious metals. The silver is spun to shape and then fitted to the pipe. The craftsmanship, created with only a lathe and chisel as basic tools, is the finest in the industry. Normally fitted with fishtail mouthpiece. Peterson lip is available made to order.” These are amongst the most attractive and collectible pipes in the Peterson range of pipe issues. Prices start at around $200 and rise to $800 for the Gold versions.

!!! PLEASE READ !!! DISCLAIMER !!!

My pictures are high quality and detailed. Please enlarge the pictures and examine them thoroughly before offerding. Pictures are of the LEFT side of the pipe, the RIGHT side, the FRONT of the bowl, the TOP of the bowl / shank / stem, and the bottom of the bowl / shank / stem. Unless otherwise stated, all my pipes are USED but in EXCELLENT CONDITION. I generally ream my bowls all the way back down to the original wood. I then use a special process to suck out as much of the old Tobacco flavors from the inside of the bowls as possible. However its rare that the inside of the bowls will ever be fully tasteless, so expect a slight hint of ghost-flavor on your first smoke (after your first smoke you should never again taste the old ghost-flavors). The stems ARE sanitized and cleaned out. Unless otherwise stated, they have NO tooth marks on them. Although the stems might not have tooth marks, remember these pipes are used and will naturally have small scuff marks on the bowls and stems; so don\'t be surprised if your stem, or bowl, has scuff marks on it. Please thoroughly analyze the photos before offerding. All pipes are finally waxed and buffed for presentation. My pipes are photographed in such a way to accentuate the wood grain and show details (even imperfections) otherwise invisible in normal photos.

Thanks!
