Description: A profoundly spiritual image of Jayavarman VII, sculpted from a soild block of hardstone in traditional Bayon style and Khmer mastery, rendered with distinct facial features, powerful downcast expression, and ornate formalism, measuring 26.0 inches (66.04cm) in height, including the museum mount.
Carved in relief, the softly contoured face is harmonious within the volume of the head, depicting a serene contemplative expression, reflecting humility and compassion, with downcast eyes, and smiling mouth. The eyebrows are arched in relief and join in the middle above a prominent nose, a well shaped mouth with wide lips recessed at the corners, and elongated earlobes. The hair is tightly matted, forming vertical rows, drawn up into a small domed topknot, secured by a simple un-ornamented band. Smooth lustrous surface, with naturally aged patina, and weathering consistent with age.
Data Observation: Excellent condition, with minor degradation of the surface, with dings, dents, and pitting being a natural part of the stones patina. Please view detailed photos for overall quality and minor imperfections of the item.
