The King Behind The King, also known as The Shield of Love, by Warwick Deeping. Hardback, Published by Cassell and Company Ltd., London, Toronto, Melbourne and Sydney, 3s,6d (3 shillings & 6 pence) Edition, February 1928. This prolific Author wrote many novels and this being one of his earlier works, is an historical romance. According to Wiki, Deeping was one of the best selling authors of the 1920s and 1930s, with seven of his novels making the best-seller list.
There are 340 pages all in Good Condition although there is extensive age spotting on the last few pages but no text is obscured. There are further faint age spots on the page edges, visible when the book is closed. The first blank page is missing and the page with just the title on it has tanned. On the inside of the front and back covers there are a couple of small pieces of paper stuck down - these may once have secured a dust jacket. On page 198, in the top margin, a purple pencil cross is present. The Green Cover is in Very Good Condition. The colour has held well and there is only minimal shelf wear to corners and edges. There is a very small hole in the cloth at the bottom side edge of the spine and when the book is tilted, there is some slight rubbing to the cloth but this is hardly noticeable - Please see Photo. Dimensions: 5.25 x 7.25 x 1.5 inches.
