Kip-Beekman-Heermance House Rhinebeck This historic plate (10 1/2\" in diamter) was given as a remembrance favor at The Dutchess Country Society Banquet held at the Hotel Astor in New hork City on Saturday, January 18th, 1913. President Taft and Senator Franklin D. Roosevelt (amongst other notable dignataries) are listed as seated a a Guest Table. About 450 other guests were in attendance [information from Seating Assignment Booklet for The Dutchess County Society Banquet. Hotel Astor. Saturday, January 18th, 1913). It is not known how many of these plates were given as a favor at the banquet.A Little History about this Historic Plate: In 1700, Henrick Kip built a small stone house which stood on the south side of what was then called Sepasco Road, running eastward from the Hudson River, and which is now known as Rhinecliff Road. This first house was sold in 1726 to Colonel Henry Beekman, Jr., who enlarged the house and lived there until his death in 1776. This first house was built in Kipsbergen ( i.e. known as Rhinecliff today). This house burned in 1910. However its stone foundation remains and is marked with an historic sign on the south side of Route 308 entering Rhinecliff from Rhinebeck.
