Kente, as we know it, was developed inthe 17th Century A.D. by the Ashanti people. It has it\'s roots in along tradition of weaving going back to 3000 B.C. This piece was madein the same long honored traditional method.
Kente Cloth is one of the highestquality handwoven textiles created in the world today. It can takeweeks or months to weave one full piece, depending on the complexityof the pattern, and patterns represent different people to theAshanti. Kente cloth is made from very fine threads of rayon,cotton, or in older pieces, silk. It is woven in strips on handmadelooms and then sewn together by only the mostly highly skilledAshanti weavers in the town of Bonwire, Ghana and also by Ewe peoplesin the Agotime region.
Slubs and nubs are inherent to making of this hand loomedtextile and in no way constitute a flaw in the fabric.
Perfect for a wall tapestry, upholstery, bedding andpillows.
