Canvas leggings are another iconic piece of a Spanish American War through Korean War GI\'s field gear that was meant to protect the ankles and calves from contact with chemical weapons and also when properly sized gave additional support to the ankles!

The Boy Scouts were using them too! These gaiters being offered date from the mid 1930s - most likely, as they were recovered with other Scouting items that dated from that time... including a relic grade BSA square yellow neckerchief.....making them very rare indeed..!! The estate they came from was a former WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps..... so he was in the Scouts prior to WWII....

These leggings are in fine+ to near very finecondition and have few, if any flaws or issues, and no rips or tears in the shells.The cotton canvas material is generally in near excellent condition! All brass eyelets and hook loops are present, and are even still mostly bright! The buckles appear to be black painted steel as they are attracted by a magnet.

Note: There are 5 brass hook loops and 11 brass eyelets on this vintage pair of BSA gaiters. All are in Very Fine+ to near Excellent condition. The laces are generally in fine+ condition with slightly frayed ends on one.. there is a spot fray on that same lace (see photo 9). There are some soiling spots on the inside of the one there is only light bleed through... I do believe they will launder out.. I did not attempt it.. careful hand washing (only) is recommended... these were worn, however you will be hard pressed to find a better example of 1930s BSA gaiters.

The BSA stamp on the inside of each gaiter reads \"Boys Scouts of America National Council New York City\" (photo 5). The National Council moved from New York City to New Jersey in 1954... so that defines the latest date these gaiters could be from.....!!! [unlikely given the previous information]

These pre-WWII Boys Scouts gaitersare not reproductions, were made in the USAandare absolutely original to the period.
