About the BookA rather rare cycling crime novel from George Lacy Hillier, an athlete and cyclist best known for his more practical writings on the sport. The story concerns the pursuit of a jewel thief and burglar by a private investigator with a cycling background, who enlists the help of an ex racing cyclist to catch the thief. Towards the end the racer pursues the thief (also a cyclist) on a chase through the countryside. In true Victorian fashion, the story veers off into a mock ghost story and a parody of an Ancient Egyptian novel. The book is illustrated throughout with a selection of photographs and drawings. ConditionA fair copy only of this rare title (none are to be found available at present). The blue cloth binding is marked and rubbed to the corners, with some small amounts of fraying to the boards\' edges. The text is complete and all pictures are present (checked against the plate index). The inner binding is pulled and weak in places with a larger crack at p112/113 but still remaining attached. No pages are loose. The book is free from inscription. A perfectly readable copy of this scarce cycling fiction.
