LARGE ANTIQUE CERAMIC ROMAN HOT WATER URN (VASE)
Dated to 2nd - 4th century A.D.
Very rare antique.Authenticityis guaranteed.
Condition: The urn is in good condition. It is intact, however there is a large crack at it\'s base (neck) which wasprofessionallyrestored. Prior to restoration the base may have been separated. There are also areas where the body of the urn is chipped. For more information on it\'s conditionpleaserefertoprovidedHD photographs. We also would like to provided more images thatcouldn\'t have been attached, please contact us for them.
Use: This urn was used by the Romans to hold hot water,possiblywith herbs. It\'sbelieved it was located at a bathing house where the Roman elite would spend their leisure time. People would drink from this urn as they bathed.
Attribution: There are several factors which attribute this antique to the Roman Empire. They are: (a)thicknessof the walls, to better store the heat from the water; (b) the shape of the urn, whichdescentsvertically (in contrast, Greeks had a more extended oval shaped urns and vases); (c) the design of the handles; (d) style of the copper crane.
