Large bronze cimier or headcrest from the grasslands of western Cameroon, probably Bamileke or Bamun. Interesting piece with huge eyes and chameleons perched atop the head. With somewhat worn rattan basketry cap, it appears tribally used. Bronze head is still connected to cap, but is a bit loose - setting the piece on a block of wood under the head, it will display perfectly. Overall in excellent condition. Probably mid 20th century
