Fine antique Japanese cloisonné charger plate from the Meiji era (1868 - 1912). The charger shape has five lobes. The outside of the charger has a raised band with borders but the area with the central design is indented lower. The charger appears to have copper rims but it is unknown if the base material of the charger itself is brass or copper.
The design is of two wild song birds flying or perched in a fabulous deep red flowering tree that is beautifully composed with thin the lobed shape. Around the base of the tree grow a variety of chrysanthemum flowers and wild grasses. The background is a beautiful medium blue color. There is a small geometric border over the transition to the indented ventral portion of the charge and a dark border with stylized flowers and swirling vines.12\' in diameter at the widest point.
