SILVER BASKET

A superb George III solid silver bread basket, hallmarked for London 1788 by themaker John Hutson.

This large basket is of shaped oval form with a swing over reeded decorated handlestanding on an oval foot, superbly engraved with a contemporary shield and a motto in the bottom of the bowl. The basket is in excellent order for its great age, with no dents, splits or major repairs (there is a small piece of silver added as a strengthening repair at the bottom of the bowl where it meets the foot, see image 8, it is hardly noticeable). There are no further engravings or erasures.

The bread baket stands approx 12cms high excluding the handle, it is 36.5cms wide and 26cms between the handle hinges, it weighs 825g (26.5 troy ounces). A superb piece of Georgian silver for use or display.
