LARGE HEAVY HAND-BLOWN GLASS w/SILVER OVERLAY ART NOUVEAU VASE

Presented is a fantastic quality silver overlay glass vase from around the turn of the century. The vase is thick, sturdy hand-blown glass, with a beautiful silver overlay of flowers and ribbons in the Art Nouveau style. The silver overlay is quite thick and very nicely hand-engraved. We do not know the maker of the piece but believe it is probably one of the American makers of similar items, such as Gorham or Alvin. This is a very large and well-made vase, and would make a truly wonderful display piece whether holding flowers or on its own.

The vase is in great condition overall. The glass has no cracks or clouding. As the photos show, there are three places where the silver overlay has come off and taken a flake of glass with it due to the strength with which the silver adheres to the glass. This is not very noticeable, given the intricacy of the overlay, and if the piece is displayed with one side to a wall etc this would not be visible, considering how close the three spots of damage are. Otherwise there are no problems.

The silver is stamped sterling on the silver around the bottom of the vase. The underside of the vase has a pontil mark or scar indicating that it is hand-blown.

The vase is approximately 11 3/4 inches tall. The mouth of the vase is approximately 5 inches in diameter.
