LARGE OLD HOPI TEWA PUEBLO INDIAN POT BOWL - ZELLA CHEEDA:
$200.00

Item Description:

This large vintage pottery bowl was made by elder Hopi Tewa potter Zella Cheeda (Antelope woman). Zella was an active potter from about 1950 until 1980. She is listed in most reference sources including Barton Wright, Gregory Schaaf and several books on Hopi pottery. This pot is signed with Zella\'s antelope hallmark on the bottom. Zella has some pieces of her pottery on display at the Museum of Northern Arizona. Zella lived in the Hopi village of Tewa.

Unfortunately, this large pottery bowl is in poor condition. The outside bottom of the bowl looks to have been blown out in the traditional firing (this blow out does not extend to the inside of the bowl). There are also hairline cracks that extend from the rim of the bowl all the way down the side to the bottom of the bowl. Also, the painted design on the inside of the bowl has been worn, faded and has stains. Through all of these issues, this is still an attractive example of older Hopi traditional pottery. And it can be placed in a way that would still make an attractive display. The bowl measures 9 3/4\" across and approximately 3 3/4\" high.
