This listing is for a very unusual and large pottery vase that recently came out of a New England estate most likely Japanese in origin. The quality of the execution in the detail is exceptional as can be seen in the photos. It appears to be made out of a type of pottery meant to imitate bronze. The body is decorated with a scene of two figures or creatures in a wooded landscape . One is seated next to a burning fire warming his hands and the other next to a large bucket of water all done in relief. There are applied figural handles and rings of relief trim around the base and neck of the piece. It stands on a tall foot and is marked with a mark on the underside. The vase stands an impressive 16 inches (40.5cm) tall and displays well. The bottom of one handle is restored along with a chip on the outside of the foot. Finally there is one small loss to one of the leaves on the tree. Still an incredible and unusual piece of pottery. (#4627)
