Item Description:
This is a vintage Navajo rug from the Chinle area of the Navajo reservation. This rug measures 67.5\" by 45\". This is a classic weaving from the early Chinle revival period which was characterized by tightly woven rugs with subtle vegetal dyed wools. On this rug, the selvage cord is mostly all intact with just a couple of loose areas on one of the long sides. Also, one side of the rug has more ultraviolet fade and stains throughout. The brighter side has some scattered stains and ultraviolet fade. This rug is an example of the fine weaving and subtle vegetal dyes characteristicof early Chinle rugs.
