We recently acquired a large collection of vintage Royal Doulton character or Toby jugs, which we will be listing on so please book mark our sales. We do combine packaging to save on shipping charges.
This sale is for a large character jug. It is part of Royal Doulton’s “The Antagonists Collection.” Both sides depict a famous fighter in American history. The jug was designed by Michael Apperley (his signature is on the base) and was introduced as part of a Worldwide Limited Edition of 9,500.
This character jug is called “The Civil War” – D6698 - with Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee featured on the sides. It is approximately 7 inches high and was introduced in 1982. It is number 447 out of the 9500.
The jug was hand made and hand decorated. It has the back stamp as shown.
The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The colours are crisp and vibrant. As is standard in English bone china pieces, there may be small factory flaws such as tiny bits of ash and transfer trapped under the glaze.
