This icon depicts Saint Nicolas theMiracle Worker the bishop of Myrain the IV century. He is one of the most popular Saints in the world. People ofvarious occupations claim him as patron. He saved sailors from terrible storm,helped poor and saved innocents from the axe. He is the Holy patron of Russia,patron of Travelers, saves from flood and poverty.

The feasts are on 9(22) May and6(19) December.

This is so called \"Summer\"Nicolas whose feast is on May. He is depicted bare headed. The\"Winter\" Nicolas is depicted in his Bishop\'s hat.

Thismodern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professional church artistat the Russian town Yaroslavl (not far from Moscow) that is one of themain and old centers of the Russian icon painting.

Theicon was painted on an old (at least 19 c.) wooden board. The board was coveredwith levkas (gesso, special priming). The central part was gilded. It waspainted then with egg tempera. The style is traditional and strictly followsantique canons of the icon painting.

Theicon is of so called \"lectern\" size that it suitable for a church aswell as for a private house.

Size= 17.5x13.6x1.2 (44.5x34.5x3 cm). Weight = 2675 gr.
