LATE GEORGIAN EARLY VICTORIAN FINELY CARVED JET CAMEO OF ATHENA OR MINERVA:
$66.05

Extraordinarylate Georgian or early Victorian hand-carvedjet cameo of Athena, or, Minerva if you prefer. The cameo is truly a work of art. In one photo you can see that I have inserted a toothpick underneath the top of her spear. All carved from one piece. Remarkable that \"bridge\" in her spear wasn\'t damaged at some point.

I want to share with you why I think this cameo is from c. 1820 - 1840. Cameos of classic Greek or Roman figures are notoriously hard to date. It is the frame and pin stem mechanism that mostly gave me my dates. The frame and prongs are hand-wrought; not made from a mold. The prongs themselves have a very distinctive Georgian style. You\'ll see countless specimen agates from this period with this same prong design. Lastly, the pin, hinge and c-clasp, in my opinion, are original to the piece. No repairs of any kind have been made. So, the original pin extends from the body of the brooch, which is indicative of brooches from that period. Also the c-clasp and hinge style also date from this era. Although marking precious metal wasn\'t the law until the early 1900\'s, it wasn\'t unheard of for apiece from this time periodto be marked.

Large cameo; measures a full 1 3/4\" long and 1 3/8\" wide.Marked \"900\"near the clasp. Gold-plated. There is a small nick out the edge of the piece. There is a prong set directly over where the pin extends from the body. Above the top prong tip is a tiny chip thatcan be seenin the photos. Someone has taken a sample from the backand there is the number \"3327\" hand-etched on the back of the stone. No other condition issues to note. Weight is 8.03 grams.

I offer free shipping and an unconditional money-back guarantee. If for any reason you are unhappy, you may return the piece for a no-hassle, promptand polite refund.
