19thC Victorian Abraham Lincoln Portrait

This is a Very Impressive and Seldom Seen Circa 1863 (post election) Steel Engraving (originally Printed in 1861) by John C. Buttre. This is large full length portrait of Abraham Lincoln in a setting that suggests the White House.Mr Lincolnis framed by the pillar of strength and the curtain of elegance, while his table contains a lamp, books and a paper entitled \"The Principles of the Union & other Patriotic Devices\"

In 1859 this same plate had been used to print portraits of John C. Fremont when he was running for the office of president. On the table was a globe. When Lincoln gained the nomination in 1860 the plate was reused by burnishing out the head of Fremont and changing the globe to a reading lamp. At first, in the 1861 Engraving Lincoln appeared clean shaven, thereafter when the third state was created the beard was added.
