The shamisen was created when snake skin strings were adopted from the Ryukyu islands (modern day Okinawa) in the muromachi period. It took the Japanese people 30 years of improvements to complete the shamisen in the Azuchi-momoyama period. Due to its simplicity and interest, along with its wide adaptability, allowed it to spread, making the shamisen common throughout the country. Today, it has been incorporated throughout the world. During the Edo period, stern regulations were placed on music; court music for nobles, Noh for samurai, koto songs were for the blind, and the shakuhachi (bamboo flute) was limited to nymphs. Therefore, the one and only thing entrusted to the general public was the shamisen. However, for 250 years during the edo period, the unique shamisen was studied relentlessly, and people\'s skill with it mounted. In reality, it was the instrument used for surprisingly elaborate music.
