LOUIS WAIN Early 20th century 17 x 6 3/4\" wooden pokerwork tray \"What’s This!\" CATS
Description
LOUIS WAIN (1860-1939)
Early 20th century 17\" x 6 3/4\" (43 x 17 cm.) wooden pokerwork tray with handles at each end with a coloured pokerwork picture after an illustration by Louis WAIN entitled “What’s This!” originally published in the “Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News in 1892”, showing eight cats apprehensively watching a large beetle crawling past. (See last scan for the print this tray is based on which is NOTincluded with the tray).
Athough undated, this would have probably been produced prior to 1920 with the majority most likely ended up as kindling! A truly rare perhaps unique survivor in this attractive condition.
RARE, I have never seen another one of these for sale and I could not find another currently available online.
A MUST FOR ANY COLLECTOR OF LOUIS WAIN!
CONDITION: The patina and coloring is in very good order with normal light wear on this nearly 100 year old wooden tray which has had one handle carefully repaired, o/w a Very Good or better example.

SHIPPING to the US & WITHIN CANADA WILL BE $25.00.
