Description Abeautiful large heavy early pair ofantique 18th Century castsolid sterling silversugar tongs by the London silversmithPhilip Batchelorand dating from around 1776-1770. Decorated with lovely pierced work and periodengraving and with attractive shell bowls. Excellent quality genuine 245+ year old examples and ahandsome large size. Unusually for a pair of this age, there are no added personal engraved monograms or crests. Fine heavy weight, approx.39 grams.

ConditionGood condition and ready to be used. No splits or cracks andno nasty knocks or dents. A couple of little old repairs within the pierced work as is usually the case on these early cast pierced tongs, (nothing at all bad, see photos).All tight and secure and with no added engraved crest/monogram in the cartouche. Very nice quality and a goodheavy weight.
