LARGE ALTAR RELIQUARY, 12 APOSTLES & 20 IMPORTANT SAINTS RELICS:

A spiritual treasure, worthy of the treasury of a major Cathedral or Monastery:

A beautiful Baroque silverfront altar reliquary, a masterpiece of the Roman silversmiths of the Pontificate of Benedict XIV (1740-58), impressive 61 cm or 24 inches in height, standing on a gilt wood foot.

Inside is the precious reliquary theca with 32 relics of the Apostles and important saints, sealed with the red wax seal of Cardinal Costantino Patrizi Naro (1798-1876), Cardinal Vicar of the Diocesis of Rome (since 1841); obviously the relic theca replaced an older one or was resealed in the Mid-19th century.

The relics are of:

* Domus Lauretana:

The Holy House of Loreto (the relic of the original house of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Nazareth, brought to Italy in the 13th cent.)

* The Holy Family:
St. Joachim & Anna, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary; St. John the Baptist; St. Elisabeth & Zachary, Parents of St. John the Baptist

* The Twelve Apostles:

* St. Peter (of the vincoli=chains); St. Andrew; St. James Maj.; St. James Minor; St. Bartholomew; St. Simon; St. Thomas; St. Philipp; St. Barnabas, St. Jude Thaddaeus; St. Matthias

The Four Evangelists:

* St. Mark; St. Luke; St. Matthew, Apostle & Evangelist; St. John, Apostle & Evangelist (a relic of his house in Ephesus)

* Important Saints:

St. Anthony, Abbot & Father of Monasticism; St. Pope Silvester; St. Benedict, Abbot; St. Anselm, Teacher of the Church; St. Helena, Empress; St. Getrud, St. Francesca of Rome; St. Scholastica; St. Odo; St. William; St. Boniface; St. Germaine.

These relics are allowed according to the rules, since they contain no human body parts but objects of devotion: The relics consist of cloth and chalk.
