Here is a large 19th c. octopus lure w/ coffee bean sinker. The lure measures 11\"long x 3 3/4\" high

x 2 1/2\"wide. (not incl. the cord)

The majority of these lures are usually found in museums and rarely appear on the market.

This scarce antique Hawaiian octopus lure features a large cowrie shell, coffee bean sinker stone,

a wood shaft, cordage and a hook which appears to be an early 19thc or earlier nail.

My parents were avid eclectic antique collectors. One of their passions were ethnographic artifacts.

They travelled extensively around the world. One of their favorite places was Hawaii and other pacific

islands. I inherited this lure, (one of several)as part of their collection.

The lure is in exceptional condition with a wonderful surface and in my opinion, beautifully constructed. It is structurally sound with minor play where the shell meets the stone, everything else

is secure.
