Large Antique Ornate 19C CAST IRON FLOOR LAMP Germany Rococco Renaissance:

Impressive large antique floor lamp in cast iron. It is very, very heavy. It has extensive ornamentation including feet resembling hooves (goat?), scroll and leaf work throughout the base and body.

I purchased this lamp at an antique shop in the late 1970s. It was painted a green enamel so I took it to a shop where they stripped the enamel off and put a coating on the cast iron to protect it. It looks the same as the day I picked it up from this shop.

Condition is very good. It appears to have been rewired some time ago and has been used for some time with an insert so that standard bulbs can be used (see photo). I wonder if originally this was a gas lamp as there are holes on the sides of the legs (not very noticeable-see photo) which must have had some sort of function. There is no lamp shade but could use either a torchere or some time of lamp shade. It is stamped on the bottom but is hard to read. I can read Am Harz which is an area of Germany so I know that it is German. An amazing unique and very rare lamp.

The lamp stands approximately 56 inches tall to the top as it now stands so with a bulb and torchere or shade it would be another several inches. The base is about 14 inches at the widest points. Please look at the photos and feel free to request additional photos or ask questions.
