Description

This is an attractive Victorian cigarette or trinket box made at the end of the nineteenth century and no doubt given as a gift of appreciation. It is made in solid sterling silver by the renowned silversmiths Mappin & Webb and bears the makers mark along with the hallmarks for London 1896. It also bears an inscription to the rear reading \'Mappin & Webb. Oxford St W.\'. It is cedar lined and has a presentation inscription to the lid which reads \'A. B. Hay 3rd K.O.S.B. To EB And DB\'. This refers to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers Regiment and thus makes this an interesting research project as well as a lovely addition to any silver collection.
