Large Magnificent Antique Oil On Canvas Portrait Girl Child George Henry Taggart. Near life size painting comes in the fine gold gilt gesso on wood frame that measures 35 1/2\" x 46\" with the art being 30\" x 41\". Signed lower right corner Geo H Taggart and is a typical example of the portraits this artist created back in the 1900 era. The canvas is near fine with 1 tint tear near the top outside the subject matter area and a few scuff marks. The frame is solid and sturdy but does have a few missing chips in the gesso material. My 12 photos will show this great piece of fine art in detail. Taggart was a very well known and he is listed on all the important artists reference books and sites. Guaranteed genuine as described.

George Henry Taggart was born in Port Washington, New York in 1865. A portraitist and genre painter, he was the first significant artist to come to Utah since Enoch Wood Perry. He died in 1924.

Taggart studied in Paris at Académie Julian with Bouguereau, Ferrier, and Lefebvre. He exhibited his work Travailleurs des Champs at the Paris salon. He came to Salt Lake City to take care of a lung ailment in 1900 and stayed for several summers.

While he was in Utah, he received a major commission to paint the likenesses of the General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including George Teasdale (1900), a tonalist portrait of one of the early General Authorities.
