Up for sale is a beautifully crafted antique splint oak potato or large vegetable gathering basket. It has terrific detailing, with its nice sturdy solid construction. The basket has a rounded bentwood hardwood frame with solid oak weavers filling in the sides. The rim is really nice, with its thick and sturdy oak splints and its bentwood double rim construction. If you turn the basket upside down, you can see a criss-crossed bentwood oak \"foot\" for the basket to rest on. The handle is amazing - it\'s rare that you find bentwood this thick and sturdy. This basket is almost certainly a true antique of over 100 years old, and was intended for honest work. This beautifully woven antique splint farm basket will make a terrific addition to someone\'s collection.

The basket, as noted, is a nice large size, measuring 12\" across at the rim and 7½\" deep - about 13\" tall to the top of the handle. The basket is in exceptional condition for its age. If you look carefully at the rim of the basket you can find several missing rim wraps, and a couple more narrow missing weavers throughout. These are the basket\'s only flaws and are actually quite minor. The handle, base with its support splints, and all of the other weavers are all intact. See photos, as they give a true picture of its features and condition. It\'s a very nice antique American splint oak basket, which makes a beautiful piece for display or would still be sturdy enough to tote your vegetables if desired. (It\'s also quite heavy, so if shipping seems a bit expensive, this is why.) A beautiful antique splint oak farm basket!
