This type of Chinese bowie knife was popular in the United States circa 1850. Some were made in China and brought here by immigrants and others were made in the US by Chinese smiths. Reference Levine\'s book Knifemakers of Old San Fransisco page 61. This example is 24 1/2 inches long overall with a 20 1/4 inch carbon steel blade. The blade is very thick 1/2 inch at the guard and tapering towards the tip. It has a steel D-guard. The handle is carved wood with brass collars. This knife is used and has lots of wear. It has a very nice overall patina. The blade edge has some small nicks. The handle has a crack on one side and wobbles a bit. There is no sheath. Shipping is $12.95
