Large vintage Navajo concho belt by Roger Skeet, Jr. Belt consists of one 3 1/2\" X 3 1/8\" oval buckle and eight identical 3 1/2\" X 3\" oval conchos. Buckle is slotted with stampedborders and \"mustache\" repousse\'. Domed conchos havecentralincised diamond design surrounded by incised lines radiating outward. Borders are stamped and scalloped in a classic Navajo fashion. Unmarked sterling and marked R S on opposite sides of the buckle in Mr. Skeet\'s usual hallmark. All are also engraver signed J Tsosie. I can only speculate that it might haveonce been the owner of the belt. Leather belt is 1\" wide and 48 3/4\" long. Each concho has two copper straps to string them on the belt. Weight of silver and leather together is a very substantial 614 grams. Belt was constructed from sheet silver, not cast, and was entirely hand wrought.This is a spectacular and showy belt with outstanding workmanshipand artistic appeal to add to a collection of valued old concho belts. In excellent vintage, wearable, and collectible condition.
