This is a very large (36\") antique wood birdcage. The cage is made very well and is made of wood, wire and the roof is metal and wood. This piece is magnificent and loaded with charm. The details are so lovely. This piece has a palace and Parisian home feel. Whoever originally crafted this antique piece so much time into it. The arch doors are so darling with their coiled metal knobs. Both doors are fully functional when opening and closing. Each locks as well with the turn of the knob. This piece is a two level cage and both top and bottom have trays that pull out. I took out the sheet metal that lined the trays to lighten it up. These large Victorian cages are becoming harder to find and in such great shape. It is so common to find them missing doors or sections. Obviously being an antique it will not be perfect and please expect to find some chippy shabby style features. There are some elements of rust on the wire and I left some at the bottom of the wire where it meets the wood on the openings. I painted the interior and exterior white and also distressed it. The metal I hand painted in a zinc style treatment to give it the feeling of aged zinc. I love the architectural style of this piece and it reminds me of a stately home.
