Late 18th - Early 19thC. ANTIQUE ANATOLIAN KONYA TRIBAL KELIM FRAGMENT. A+ Color:
$2500.00

Circa 1800 RARE ANTIQUE ANATOLIAN KONYA REGION KILIM FRAGMENT (about half the original size and now museum conserved to a linen backing), Central Anatolia, from a tribal group in the area of Aksehir (Konya), probably before 1800, but conservatively datedfrom the late 18th to early 19th century and, considering its very early age,it comesin a fairly goodstate of preservation for either the collector, the designer, or decorator. Professionally cleaned and museum conserved, the size of the textile fragment itself is: 2\'-4\" x 6\'-5\" (71 x 196 cm).The town of Konya, ancient \"Iconium\", and the surrounding weaving areas have been a rug and kilim producing center since the time of the Seljuks beginning in the late 11th century. This early antique specimen probablydates from around 1800. This a rather rare example of its type and it represents about one half of the central field of the original weaving. Thekelim is all wool in construction with natural ivory wool warps and patternedwith a beautiful array of \"old school\" natural dye colors. There are some holes in the top portion of the mihrab element with smaller holes in the center and bottom half.See all close up photos for details. This museum age textile artifact is clean and collection or display ready. It has been sewn conserved to a linen backing for the sake of posterity and to facilitate its exhibit as a decorative antique tribal textile art wall hanging in the home or office.Ifyou have any questions about this colorful kilim fragment, feel free to call or email Michael Phillips 3038857599.
