Late 19th Early 20th Century Chinese Lacquer Cinnabar Carved Round Paste Box:

For your consideration weoffer a round paste box done in lacquer cinnabar. The carving is of a central lotus blossom with 3 yuri and scrolled tendrils. In the closeup pics you should be able to see the layers of lacquer and within the cinnabar/red you can see the thiness of layers applied from what appear to be edge flakes. When we first aquired the piece the red was pretty much not noticeable with the heavy dust. We used a simple soft brush and cleaned the dust as best we could without using any liquids. As you will see it could like use a better cleaning. The darker/lacquer we simply used a soft cotton cloth and polished it as gently as possible. It works for most finishes so we figured it wouldn\'t hurt this piece. Measurements are as follows: width in the center where both sections meet approx. 2 15/16 (not quite 3\"), height approx. 7/8\" (again not quite 1 inch). The interior is nice and clean with some light wear, hardly any. The bottom shows alot more wear. We have supplied a side by side pic which shows that the polish really didn\'t alter the condition only the finish, scratches etc.. are still where they were when we first got the piece. We do not know lacquer work or how one can tell which region it might have been created. We were told by a couple of people that it had/showed andmight be Yuan,others said Huan. I do not believe it is Huan from examples I have seen, but that is just a guess. and not an edcuated one atthat.
