BEAUTIFUL COBALT BLUESATSUMA GEISHA VASE Meiji Period, c. 1890 Large Meiji era Satsuma vase. Beautifully hand painted polychrome enamels depictingelegant figures, lovely geisha and small children. They converse within a flower filled garden. Distant mountains, small huts, and a serene waterway surround them. A flowering tree arches overhead with raised white flowers, tastefully completing the picture. The two panels are surrounded bya most gorgeous deep shade of cobalt blue.
Of significant size, measuring approximately 12\" tall. The vase has a staple repair to the rim, a feature that certain collectors (including ourselves) highly appreciate, as it is a lost art in itself. Signed on the underside with a hand painted vermilion mark within the recessed foot. Dates to the late 1800s, and appears to have been carefullytreasured for over a century by the fortunate owners.An exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating collector offineJapanese antiques.
