Men\'s Silver* Dollar Coin Money Clip with Cut-Out \"Ike\" President Dollar Coin

The Eisenhower dollar followed the Peace dollar after a lapse of 36 years where a dollar coin was not minted. This coin is named for President Dwight David \"Ike\" Eisenhower, who died in 1969; his likeness appears on the obverse. The reverse side features a theme honoring the Apollo 11 1969 moon landing that put the first humans on the moon. The design was based on the Apollo 11 insignia featuring an eagle grasping an olive branch in her talons, and moonscape, with the earth in the distance. This coin was annually minted beginning in 1971 and then only eight years making the earliest issues over 40 years old! A special 1976-themed Bicentennial themed coin was minted starting in 1975 and 1976, however none were dated 1975. Those coins feature a dual date 1776-1976 reflecting the 200th year celebrations. The reverse for this special issue features a Liberty Bell overlapping a moon.

* The 1971 - 1976 dated silver dollar coins contain silver. In the years 1977 and 1978 dollars contain no silver, but a 100% copper core, sandwiched with a 75% copper/25% nickel. These coins are referred to as a CLAD cupro-nickel metal composition. The clips contain no silver, unless noted.

About the Cut Coin

The coins we use for coin cutting include the 40%-silver clad composition coins minted only for coin collectors during the years 1971 to 1976. These coins include outer layers of 80% silver with a center of 20% silver, with an aggregate of 60% copper / 40% silver. Before cutting, each silver issue weighed 24.59 grams, containing 9.836 grams of silver, or 0.3162 troy ounce of silver. When you look at the coins reed edge of you\'ll see both the nickel (or silver) and copper composition. Clips contain no silver unless noted. Of course, after cutting away the background of the coin weighs less.

Note the tiny \"D\" or \"S\" on some of the obverse photos above? We include these mint marks on the detail cuts we offer. The differences mean that the \"D\" designated coins were minted in Denver; the \"S\" designation coins were minted in San Francisco. When no mint-mark exists, in likely was a \"plain\" coin minted in Philadelphia.

How do you cut out a coin?

First several holes are drilled through the surface of the coin, in strategic areas. Then, a jewelers saw is threaded into the holes and the \"flat area\" of the coin is \"cut away\" by a coin cutter with decades of coin-cutting experience. Your coin is hand cut out. It is not laser cut. Under the guidance of a cutter with decades of coin-cutting experience, the blade carves away the areas you see missing in the photos above. If you look closely, you may be able to see a special angle cut -- sometimes referred to a \"pyramid\" cut. This technique is used to give the illusion that the remaining design is floating within the coins rim. The backside of the coin has a wider cut, just like the base of a pyramid, in select places giving the coin it\'s strength. You can see right through the coin!
