A complete set of thirty different postcards of events from the life of Christ, painted by the French artist James Joseph Jacques Tissot (1836-1902). They are numbered #1 to #30 on the backs. They were published in the 1910s by Tiskl Josef Gabriel a Spol of Czechoslovakia.

The chief labor of Tissot’s career was the production of a large series of watercolors illustrating the life of Christ and the Old Testament. In 1896 the series of 350 drawings of incidents in the life of Christ was exhibited in Paris, and the following year in London. They were then published by the firm of Lemercier in Paris, who had paid him 1,100,000 francs for them.

The merits of Tissot’s Bible illustrations are based on the care with which he studied the details of scenery. He aimed at accuracy above all, and at a vivid realism in his figures, which was far removed from the conventional treatment of sacred types.

All 30 postcards are unused, and nearly all are in Very Good to Excellent condition, except for two or three with water stains and card #1 which has very heavy scrapes on the front.

Tracking is free on orders of $100 and more. On smaller orders, the costfor tracking is $12 extra(our actual cost).
