This lifesize walnut wood carved bust of Quannah Parker is an original handcarved piece by California artist Rodney Cole. My parents bought it at a woodworking show in California in the late 1980\'s. I inherited it. It is signed and dated 1985. This stunning piece is incredibly detailed, solid, weighing 18 pounds, and measures 17- inches tall. It is in pristine condition, with no damage. There is a natural crack in the wood on the top of the head, and pictured here as part of the description.Artist Rodney Glen Cole, \"Rod\" was 88 when he died, April 11, 2010 of natural causes. He grew up in San Diego. During World War II, he served with the Army Signal Corp in the South Pacific. Following his retirement, he was able to develop his wood carving skills, producing many beautiful busts of American Indians. He was often awarded Best of Show ribbons.
I researched Mr. Cole and found tidbits here and there on the Internet. He was a successful, respected artist known for his beautiful carvings of American Indians. He was a member of woodcarving guilds, happily married and a great dad who took his children on outdoor adventures.
The bust could use some cleaning; and I would suggest the winning buyer look into possibly oiling the piece. The dark shadow in the closeup is my cellphone. Additional photos by request. Please be specific in what you want to see better detailed.
