Artist: Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino) (Italian, 1483-1520)
Title: Jupiter and Cupid
Medium:Antiquehand pulled copper plate etching on wove paper after the original Raphael\'s fresco in the Chigi Gallery of the Villa Farnesina in Romeby by master etcher Amand Durand (1831-1905).
Year:1886
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: Image Size6 x 9 1/4 inches .
Framed dimensions:Approximately 15 x 19 inches .
Framing: This piece has been professionally matted and framed using all new materials.
Additional notes:This is an original Amand Durand print, printed in the 1880\'s, not a modern restrike (many of the ones sold on the internet are modern re-strikes using Durand\'s plates)...And the quality of the Durand etchings are so good that many museums and galleries have ended up with Durand etchings that are shown as 17th century originals.Original etching was executed in the 1600\'s. This late impression after the original is well more than 130 years old. Published circa 1880\'s. The price on for the Amand Durand Rembrandt\'s goes up to more than $2000. We have found these same etchings (although many that we found were modern day reprints and not the originals like we are selling - the modern versions are on a heavy cream colored wove paper and altough the quality is nice, the plates have been reworked to the point that the image has lost the \"look and feel\" of the original Rembrandt etching) on gallery websites for several hundred and up to more than $1000 each. That doesn\'t include any of the etchings that are stated to be unknown but are really Amand Durands.Artist Biography:Raphael, Italian in full Raffaello Sanzio or Raffaello Santi was a master painter and architect of the Italian High Renaissance. Raphael is best known for his Madonnas and for his large figure compositions in the Vatican. His work is admired for its clarity of form and ease of composition and for its visual achievement of the Neoplatonic ideal of human grandeur.
