Following the Siege of Chattanooga & Battle Lookout Mountain on Nov 24, 1863 , the scenic overlook became a popular spot for Union soldiers & wartime visitors to pose for photographers. An original Civil War era CDV photograph of a grizzled soldier in civilian coat seated on the cliff overlooking the Tennessee River. The man is posed with a Napoleonic \"one hand in coat\" pose and wearing a campaign hat- you can just see the acorn cord hatband. The CDV reverse bears a US Revenue stamp with the ink initials of the photographer \"SSU\". The image is clear, the mat has a 1/2 tear in top margin, Overall VG.
