Offered for sale is a lot of five (5) Original Civil War 16th Michigan Volunteer Documents. The soldiers referenced in the pension and promotion documents share the last name of Welch. All documents show some aging and wear. Please examine pictures for condition. Included:

  1. Letter dated April 10, 1855 announces the surrender of \'Gen R.E. Lee\', \'today at 12 o\'clock\' is on very delicate paper and has some shorthand notations possible a secretary\'s copy. It is signed by \'S.B. Bean\'.

  2. Letter from Austin Blair the \'Governor In and Over the State of Michigan\' promoting Wallace Welch to \'First Lieutenant and Quartermaster\'. It is dated the \'Eighth day of September - 1864\'. The pertinent information was filled in blank spaces on the document and the red seal has \"THE GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN\" labelled around the seal of Michigan.
  3. The Pension Certificate of Walllace Welch is from the Bureau of Pensions, Department of the Interior. It notes an \"Increase\" in the upper right hand corner and gives some detail of Wallace Welch\'s medical challenges.
  4. A letter dated July 17th, 1865, from the \'Head-Quarters 16th Mich. Infantry Vet. Vol.\' congratulating and thanking the soldier for service in a list of battles they participated in. It is signed by the Colonel (name is difficult to determine).
  5. A document promoting Allen Welch to the duty of Sergeant with the banner: \"The Commanding Officer of the Eighteenth Regiment of Infantry\". (The underlined words are written in spaces.) Dated the \'Twenty fourth day of October\' 1961 at the \'Head Quarters\' of the Regiment at Columbus, Ohio. It is signed by the Commanding Officer Henry B Cannigton (?). This document has signs that the soldier may have carried it folded in a pocket of his uniform.
