LOUIS \"SATCHMO\" ARMSTRONG (1900-1971). Renowned American jazz great. Learning to play the coronet and trumpet atthe New Orleansorphanage where he was raised, Armstrong went on to become the firstinternationally known American jazz soloist.Getting his professional start in Mississippiriverboat bands, Armstrong moved to Chicagoin 1922 where he performed with \"King\" Oliver\'s band, a band whichwas among the very first to record with black performers. In 1925, he formed his own group, the “HotFive” (occasionally the “Hot Seven”) which, over the next several years, made aseries of recordings still prized today as classic, Chicago Dixieland. In 1932, Armstrong made the first of many successfulEuropean tours. His popularity wasHeightened through appearances on radio, in films, and, later, television. His unique “scat” singing style became aswell known as his trumpet tone, and today he remains one of the most famous ofall American jazz musicians.

Signed program. 8pg. 9” x 12”.No date [April 27, 1961]. No place [Pittsburgh]. A black and white photograph signed “LouisArmstrong” with a huge seven and a half inch signature. Armstrong signed the centerfold image. The previous owner got this Armstrongautograph after his Pittsburgh concert on April 27, 1961. The cover has very light wear and it is infine condition overall.
