Very interesting early 1900\'s French Impressionist/Fauve oil painting on board of a country scene. Signed LV the signature/initials of Louis Valtat 1868 - 1952 an important Post Impressionist/ Fauve painter. I have looked at the signature under UV and it is original to the painting and the period is early 20th century. It came in the later frame under glass and with the reverse covered in paper which I removed to see if there were other indications as to its authership. The painting is painted with some bravura and the strong impasto shows a clear confident feeling for the subject and the materials. Painting on board measures 15 1/2\"\" x 12\" (40cms x 30cms) and 21\" x 17 1/2\" (54cms x 44cms)in its good period gilt frame.
