A lovely antique toleware storage box/caddy dating to the 19th century. This lovely unusual little tin has a fantastic, bygone look about it and would have been used as as a secure means of storage, probably while travelling. It features a wired tin construction with gold-lined detailing, wire side handles and divided & lacquered or \'Japanned\' interior with removable tray. Toleware was a British & European version of Oriental lacquer ware made in the 19th century to cope with demand & the lid retains its original but faded floral detail. A great functional little box, sure to look great anywhere.
The box measures around 25cm wide, 18cm deep & 11cm high. It is in good, solid but worn condition as pictured and is an item with a lot of age showing various signs of wear.
